The construction of the Headquarters started in 2019 at the Bio Island. The project covers an area of 31,000 square meters, with a total construction area of 118,000 square meters and a total investment of 1.1 billion RMB.
Major facilities to be built include an R&D centre, a biomedical incubator, and a mass entrepreneurship and innovation centre. Laboratories there will carry out research on biomedicine, TCMs, natural herbs, innovative drugs, and generic drugs and there will also be physical and chemical and testing centres.
The Headquarters will focus on the research, development, and application of innovative drugs, such as 'Great Health' products and biomedical and small molecule drugs. It is a major construction engineering project that will develop an R&D platform for innovative drugs and medical equipment, an R&D centre, an international pharmaceutical cooperation and exchange centre, a technology incubator as well as a mass entrepreneurship and innovation centre.
"The project was designed with the theme of 'carp leaping over the Dragon Gate, fish holding a pearl in its mouth', indicating that GPHL has made progress smoothly after it was included on the Fortune Global 500 list. It will serve as an important platform to further expand the room for industrial development, strengthen the capacity of proprietary research and development, make products more competitive, and improve resource integration in the future", Chairman Li Chuyuan said in his speech.
"Over the years, I have been part of GPHL's journey of scientific research and I'm so proud of the remarkable breakthroughs GPHL has achieved in many areas, such as the construction of hierarchical platforms, personnel cultivation, implementation of major projects, and industry-university-research synergistic cooperation." Professor Xuan Guowei, a TCM master, said in his speech.
Xuan hopes GPHL will make full use of the features and advantages of the Bio Island, strengthen international collaboration, and seek to build a top national and specialized R&D platform with international influence, providing the biomedical industry in the Greater Bay Area with incubator, engine and accelerator.
